Implant Treatment and Care

How is an implant made?

We often recommend implants to patients to replace missing teeth. Implants are usually screw-shaped tooth roots and are used to replace teeth lost due to decay, trauma, periodontal disease or other reasons.

Tooth loss causes various problems in terms of aesthetics, speech, food grinding and oral integrity. Tooth loss can cause melting of the jawbone if no precautions are taken. Therefore, it is very important for health to be implanted correctly after tooth loss.

The applicability of implant treatment is quite high. While a patient with a single missing tooth can also have an implant, a patient with no teeth can also have an implant. In addition, another important reason why implants are preferred is that they have the closest chewing effect to normal and do not cause any damage to neighboring teeth during treatment.

Implants are generally made of alloy and titanium. These materials are not affected by oral fluids, are resistant to impacts and have a long service life. Implants made of titanium are highly tissue compatible.

Implant Treatment

Before starting treatment, the patient must be over the age of 18 and have completed jaw and facial development. In addition, X-rays and even computed tomography, if necessary, should be taken to determine the suitability of the jaw structure for the treatment to be applied. It is important for diabetics and blood pressure patients to state their conditions to the physician before treatment and to have their diseases regulated before treatment. After the above conditions are met, the implant treatment stages are as follows.

If the patient’s jaw structure is suitable, the implant is placed immediately instead of the missing tooth in the jaw. Depending on the suitability of the jaw, this period may extend up to 3 months. At the end of this waiting period, the x-ray of the patient with a settled jaw bone structure is taken and the measurements of the jaw bones and other remaining teeth are taken. The gum is cut to the appropriate diameter and length and the implant is placed. The implant is placed in the cavity in the gum after local anesthesia is applied, and then the implant added to the gum is expected to adapt to the bones in the jaw for a while. This waiting period is sometimes between one month and three months depending on the person.

While waiting for the implant to settle in the jaw, if bone resorption occurs in the jaw or if there is no suitable bone, the treatment process is prolonged. In such cases, bone volume is strengthened and increased to the desired size by applying various bone formation procedures (augmentation, bone graft application, bone powder application or box technique) in the relevant area before implant treatment.

In the last stage of the treatment, a crown is placed on the tooth root, which is made of titanium. The crown is made of zirconium or porcelain. This customized crown is placed on the implant by screwing or gluing.

Implant Care

We must pay attention to our oral hygiene after implant treatment, otherwise we may lose our implants as we lose our natural teeth. We should pay attention to brushing our teeth, use oral care water and do not neglect the doctor’s check-ups.
