Prosthesis Applications

What are Prosthetic Applications?

Prosthodontics are restorative dentistry methods used to correct missing teeth or damage to teeth. Dentures can be used to replace missing teeth, restore tooth shape and function, or make aesthetic corrections. Here are common denture applications;

Complete Dentures (Palatal Dentures)

They are used when all teeth are missing. They are usually made of acrylic or porcelain and have a base underneath to cover the palate. These dentures help edentulous patients regain their chewing function and achieve an aesthetically natural smile. Palatal dentures are carefully designed to distribute pressure on the jawbone and protect soft tissues.

Partial Dentures

They are used when several teeth are missing. The metal or porcelain teeth that replace the teeth are supported by a metal clip or fixed attachments to hold onto the natural teeth remaining in the mouth. Partial dentures play an important role in restoring the function of the missing teeth, while at the same time maintaining the movement of the natural teeth and the natural shape of the jawbone.

Bridge Prostheses

They are fixed prostheses used to cover missing teeth. They consist of artificial teeth that replace the missing tooth based on the teeth next to it. They are usually made of porcelain or ceramic material and are permanently attached to natural teeth. In addition to restoring chewing function, bridges also provide an aesthetically natural smile.

Hybrid Prostheses

They are special prostheses that combine the features of fixed and removable prostheses. They are used when a small number of teeth are missing. The teeth are fixed based on the natural teeth remaining in the mouth, but can be removed if necessary. Hybrid dentures combine both the durability of fixed dentures and the comfort of removable dentures.

Implant Supported Prostheses

They are prostheses supported by dental implants. Implants are artificial tooth roots that are placed in the jawbone. The prosthesis is fixed by attaching to the implants, providing a more robust and natural solution. Implant-supported dentures can be an ideal option for replacing missing teeth and can restore chewing function as closely as possible to natural teeth.

These dentures are recommended by dentists depending on the patient’s specific needs and condition. Each type of denture serves a specific purpose and is designed to improve the patient’s dental health and quality of life.
